description | The article is written in the interdisciplinary field of sociology of migration, urban sociology and sociology of
food and nutrition. The article proposes to apply the developments of civil science as an alternative way of
collecting data in the social mapping of urban space, using the example of design of a social nutrition map for young people from the Republic of Dagestan living in St. Petersburg, which reflects national and religious
needs and is objectified in food outlets (catering) and points of sale (trading networks and outlets) of Halal
products. In order to identify the social resources of St. Petersburg for Dagestan youth living in the city, we,
relying on studies of food as a social construct (P. Bourdieu, Yu.V. Veselov, E.L. Kapustina), considered the
experience of previous studies by domestic authors in the implementation search for objects (ethnic catering
establishments) in urban areas (E.A. Varshaver and A.L. Rocheva, E.Yu. Gulyaeva, E.V. Dyatlova, V.M. Peshkova, O.V. Pinchuk and T. R. Minyazhev, A.A. Pustarnakova et al.), analyzed the opportunities provided to halaloriented consumers by popular 2GIS, Yandex and Google maps and other Internet resources, using the method of social mapping of urban space (Ch. Booth, Chicago School of Sociology, etc.), attracted the developments of civil science, which are effective when there is a shortage of resources (labor, temporary, etc.), in territories with a diverse landscape (social, economic, cultural, etc.). The result of the study is the compilation of a map of food outlets and the sale of halal products in St. Petersburg, based on the opinion of Dagestan youth, the map includes 87 objects. The advantages and disadvantages of involving citizen science are considered, and it is concluded that the application of citizen science developments in sociology is an interesting and effective alternative to other methods of data collection. |
