Summary: | <p align="justify">The present work aims to discuss the contributions of studies on the theory of Bakhtin Discourse Genre (2000 [1979]), to describe texts from the official/business universe. This is a descriptive work and it applies the criteria used by the author to describe the textual/discursive genres in two formulaic genres: the minute and the memo. This work is part of the investigations that are made at Federal University of Paraíba, through the project: “Semantic-Argumentative Studies of the Discourse Genre: school composition and formulaic genres (ESAGD)”, financed by CNPq, it has as one of its main objectives to investigate the argumentativity in textual genre of the official/business universe, such as memo, minute, letter etc. In this work, we demonstrate, from the previous and ongoing researches, how is possible to define and describe some discourse genre, through linguistic-discursive criteria, without having to see, exclusively, the manuals of commercial/official writing.</p>
