description | Since the end of the Cold War, United States internal and external policies are presenting trends of poltical polarization and party fragmentation, that put into check the continuity of consensus in the domestic agenda and international relations. In this context, the social and economic transformation that begun in the 1970s still is heightened which points to the reconfiguration of political forces in a country which is getting more and more divided. In this framework, phenomenon such as the rise of neoconservatives, the polarization of partidary projects, renewal and continuity, overlap. The goal of the article is to understand and debate this dynamics, presenting the main characteristics of the XXI century and how it led to the election of Donald J. Trump as the President of the US. |
