description It is a longitudinal study in Ecuadorian Amazonian ethnic groups to identify fertility differentials, their relationships between desire to have children and contraceptive practices (2001, 2012). There is a fertility differential trend by ethnicity, where constant high parity was found as in the case of the Kichwas. Altogether, data suggests the onset of the fertility transition among these ethnic groups. Their desire of not having another child in 2001 is not implemented in 2012; the use of contraceptives from traditional contraceptives increases in comparison with non-traditional. Family planning is within the social considerations of this population, however with significant unmet needs with respect. Policy makers should recognize these ethnic groups situation and specificities, thus contributing to a real exercise of their sexual and reproductive rights.
