description For a Baroque person, death represented the termination of an earthly life full of pain and suffering caused by unfavourable historical, social, and confessional conditions. So, in the prints dealing with death, Baroque rhetoric could fully flourish. Funeral orations and consolation works form the greatest part of panegyric prints. Panegyrists sourced a background and inspiration from celebratory works of Ancient literature and mythology, which managed to creatively reconnect biblical and patristic tradition and life matters of that era. In case of the panegyric, it might seem to a present-day reader that functionality and form dominate its content. It is given not only by the fact that it was written for a particular occasion, but also by the early literary tradition where all genres had a precisely determined function. In terms of their form, intellectual contribution, poetics, and knowledge, panegyrics did not match the significance of other genre forms. In fact, they are not among the best and most significant products of the Trnava University printing office. Nonetheless, they are specimens of domestic occasional works. In spite of the fact that panegyrics contain a lot of common features, the so-called loci communes, the same topos recurs in them, they are markedly purposive. A detached view is needed when studying their content. Several researchers today feel that they represent a sensitive indicator of a situation in the society, since panegyrics often provide information about a person or events not recorded in historical sources.
