Summary: | This article focuses on social capital and entrepreneurship from an unusual methodological perspective. First the analyses are based on networks since it is our belief that social capital cannot be captured unless stable patterns of interaction are considered. Then we see community as a methodological arena full of social meanings hard to be identified on wide representative samples. Therefore case studies, even not appropriate for generalizations, make interpretations and in-depth understanding of social life a lot easier. A set of genuine facts that goes against theory and researcher intuition might reveal a solid logic of events and information chaotically spread over the social world. A strong hypothesis comes up from the main findings of this study: entrepreneurs have strong, double-checked, social contacts because they try to cover a trust deficit. |
