Summary:The article reviews the features and dynamics of Internet development as the main means of mass communication in the modern world. The author draws attention to quantitative and qualitative changes in virtual communication due to the concept Web 2.0, and the role and meaning of network communication tools, social media and social networks in various spheres of social life. The article presents official data published by international and Armenian research agencies in the last 2-3 years concerning the growth in the number of the Internet and social networks users, which is a reflection of quantitative changes leading to qualitative transformations in communication and public relations.
