| description | This study aims to describe the scope of Arabic literary criticism as well as a brief history of the development of literary criticism from the jahiliyah period to the modern period. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data collection technique used in this research is by using the library research method. The results of this study conclude that 1) the scope of literary criticism consists of five divisions of literary criticism: ad-dzati criticism, al-Maudhu'I criticism, al-I'tiqadi criticism, at-Tarikhi criticism, and al-Lughawy criticism. 2) the function and types of Arabic literary criticism. The functions of literary criticism include: first. Literary criticism can make it easier for literary connoisseurs to understand the content of a literary work. Second, helping novice writers in improving their literary works so that they become great writers. Third, as a supporter of literary science, both in terms of literary history or in terms of literary theory itself. The types of literary criticism are based on their form which can be seen from two sides: First, the method (implementation/application), second, the types of literary criticism. 3) A brief history of the development of literary criticism from the jahiliyah period to the modern era. |
