Description
Summary:On the basis of the data provided by the Atlas linguistique de la Basse-Bretagne and Atlas linguistique de France ‘moucherons’ maps, our aim is to highlight some aspects of the problems raised by the comparative study of the linguistic domains of Western and Eastern Brittany, by comparing dialectological material with that from lexicons and place names. In Western Breton, there are three competing terms for moucherons: hwibu (and its variants), gwispet (and its variant) and mousitked. The latter is only attested at point 81, the latter at six points, spread over two unequal areas, and the former throughout the rest of the domain.
