description This paper highlights the importance of remote sensing and GIS techniques applied on aerial photographs for forests spatio-temporal dynamics analysis. An assessment of the changes in the distribution and extension of Kiadi cork oak forest was carried out using historical imagery, covering a period of 35 years. The results indicate that, roadways and building surfaces in Kiadi forest have increased by 9.71 and 3.86% respectively, while the surface initially covered by vegetation decreased by 13.57%, as a result of anthropogenic disturbance. Digital processing of historical aerial photographs proved to be a powerful tool for quantitative analysis of forest dynamics.
