Summary: | Galactia glaucescens (Kunth) (Leguminosae) has been used for treatments in snake bite poisoning. So the objective was to describe the anatomy of vegetative organs and performing histochemistry. Plants were collected in 2 arrays occurring in the Federal University of Tocantins campus located in the city of Porto Nacional, Tocantins and subjected to the usual methods of anatomical and histochemical characterization. Alkaloids, tannin were detected in all similar to those reported in the literature organs. Terpenes were also present in the leaf and are associated with the protection of this organ. The leaf epidermis is uniseriate with anomocytic and paracytic stomata present on both sides, with the abaxial surface with a predominance of stomata. The mesophyll is dorsiventral. It was possible to highlight the presence of many fibers including soft, plus tanniferous and numerous crystal idioblasts in all organs analyzed. These features are related to the species and provide sclerophylly adaptability to savannah.
