| Summary: | Throughout history, it is seen that words have undergone various changes in terms of
meaning. Determining these changes in words is very important in revealing language
development in historical periods. In this study, besides basic meanings of the verb sür-, seen in
the works of Ali Şir Nevayi’s such as “to drive, to expel, to send away, to send; to send troops;
to drive; to ride; to anoint; to reign; to perpetuate; to live a life, to spend time; to curse; to float;
to pull towards oneself; plowing, plowing; to touch; to direct; spreading, applying a substance
as a thin layer on a surface; to talk, to speak” etc. the “writing” meaning is also emphasized. In
this context, firstly, the works in which the verb sür- existed in the historical periods of the
Turkic language since Old Turkic was determined, and examples from the works were included,
the line and page numbers of the verb were indicated. Then, considering the context of the text,
the meanings of the verb in the works were included and the verb was classified according to
these meanings. From this point of view, it was tried to determine whether the verb sür- which
means the verb "to write" in the works of Ali Şir Nevâyî, was used in the historical periods of
the Turkic language. In addition to these, while determining the meanings of the sür- verb used
in the historical periods of the Turkic language, it was tried to shed light on the historical
journey of the Turkic language in the historical periods, starting from the Old Turkic.
