description The psychoanalytically oriented view of groups that make use of mediating objects are of great value in Brazil. Many psychologists who work in institutions, where such groups are developed, do have knowledge of psychoanalysis theory but are unable to relate this knowledge to their work. In order to ground the application of psychoanalytical concepts to such groups, we discuss the notion of setting in Psychoanalysis and we go over some important metapsychological and technical aspects implied in mediation groups. The influence of what Bleger calls Operative Psychoanalysis in Brazil leads us to believe that mediation groups are likely to be applied in a broader variety of contexts in Brazil. Accordingly, we propose that Fotolanguage©, as presented by Claudine Vacheret, may represent not only a valuable new setting in this country, but, more importantly, it can work as a reference setting for professional practice and research in different contexts.
