description The article focuses on texts from two Mexican magazines published by and for women during the autocratic regime of General Porfirio Díaz: the first is Las Violetas del Anáhuac (1887-1889; the first eight issues are published under the title Las Hijas del Anáhuac) – a magazine that includes instructional articles, moralising essays, poetry and short stories; the second of these publications is Vésper (published with frequent interruptions between 1901-1932), a periodical in which combative contributions predominate. We will investigate how the authors (especially the two main actors Laureana Wright de Kleinhans and Juana Belén Gutiérrez de Mendoza) make use of their cultural capital, ask about the strategies of argumentation they envision, and explore the extent to which the texts are integrated, or else disintegrated, into the journalistic landscape of the Porfiriato, in order to sketch the panorama of gender constructions. Texts are here defined within the framework of a strategic place within a system of the discursive order of society, which in turn is constituted by specific conceptions of value and truth, by a régime de vérité. We will analyse which practices of biopower can be seen in the publications and to what extent the norms in force are challenged by transversal resistances that reveal the configurations of power.
