Two new phytosterols from the stem bark of Ficus bengalensis L.

Phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract of the stem bark of Ficus bengalensis L. (Moraceae) resulted in the isolation of two new phytoconstituents characterized as lanost-5,24-dien-3β-yl-β-d-glucopyranosid-2′-O-yl-docos-11″-enoate (lanostadienylglucosyl cetoleate) (1) and 3β-acetoxy-st...

Description
Summary:Phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract of the stem bark of Ficus bengalensis L. (Moraceae) resulted in the isolation of two new phytoconstituents characterized as lanost-5,24-dien-3β-yl-β-d-glucopyranosid-2′-O-yl-docos-11″-enoate (lanostadienylglucosyl cetoleate) (1) and 3β-acetoxy-stigmast-22-en-26-oic acid (bengalensisteroic acid ester) (2) together with the known compounds heneicosanyl cis-octadec-9-enoate (heneicosanyl oleate) (3), urs-12-en-3β-yl acetate (α-amyrin acetate) (4), and lup-20(29)-en-3β-ol (lupeol) (5). The structures of these phytoconstituents have been established on the basis of spectral data analysis, chemical reactions and comparison of literature.
