description The construction and performance of a liquid scintillation counter for the measurement of radioactive vapors is described. The instrument is used in conjunction with a gas-liquid chromatographic instrument for the measurement of C14 contained in chromatographic vapors. With a single photomultiplier tube 50 per cent of the C14-disintegrationa are counted and recorded parallel with the chromatographic analysis. The records obtained are of the integral type. The resolving power of the counter is such that radioactive fractions needing only 25 seconds to pass through the chromatographic analyzer (gas-density balance) may be clearly distinguished from other radioactive fractions following in 1 minute or less.
