Description
Summary:Based on a doctoral research conducted with adults born in France, the author analyzes the various mobilities to the ancestral land through the lens of memory work. The case studies thus complement existing research on diasporic or memorial tourism among the first generations and root tourism among the subsequent generations. They propose four modalities through which the experience in Vietnam contributes to the process family and collective memory shaping. This process is based on genealogical investigation about facts, a sensory experience that engages the body in space, imagination as the ability to project oneself into an alternative or counterfactual memory, and finally, symbolic practices that align with pilgrimage analysis.
