Description
Summary:In 1857, Francisque Michel published his well known Le Pays Basque. In this voluminous book, he provided an extensive and detailed introduction to Basque literature. Despite the fact that the book has been widely quoted in subsequent accounts of Basque literature, little is normally said about the contents of Francisque Michel's introduction, even less about the methodology he followed. In this paper, I address these two issues.
