description | Podunavska literature of the XVII and XVIII centuries, as the author says, carries features rather of the old Serbian literary tradition than European culture and ideals of baroque. As per the sources which works are based on, as per the method of creation, which appeared following the example of God-inspired method of telling of old Serbian writers, following the aim it is craving for to realize Christian sense of life on the earth through Gospel's messages poetically being woven in, this literature carries solid links with old Serbian historiography and cultural tradition of Ćirilo and Metodije. Furthermore, literary work of Gavrilo Stefanović Venclović represents the phenomenon in which literary tradition is revived; through poetic images Christian messages are given in it, which enables works with eternal values. This well-educated Serbian monk, the student of Kiprijan Račanin, who established a new school as per all characteristics, and its research directed toward Serbo-Slave contents, knew that he resurrected Ćirilo-Methodian tradition by his activity - to create from its Christian ideal and theological contents poetic images of higher artistic value. Venclović studied the theology of Saint Fathers of the Eastern Church, he also dealt with oratory and ecclesiastical literature, and he enriched highly Serbian omilitics by his works. His Sermon on Saint Father Prokle, to former deacon of Saint Jovan Zlatousti, represents a real example of oratory. It was written following the example of Saint Gospel's sermon; elements of Gospel's learning were given in it, which by its genuine light enlightens the intellect, purifies the heart, and all goes toward the spiritual perfection. A lot of truths of Holy Scriptures were woven so that God-s words and Gospel's secrets are being accepted through blessing deed. The sermon is showing that in Holy Scriptures 'words are to be truths' (Ef 1, 13), and 'words of life' ( Fil 2, 16), and that the Church is 'the pillar and fortress of the truth' (1.Tim 3, 15). |
