Description
Summary:The study verified the influence of the teaching of financial education in saving decisions on the behavior of students of 5th-grade classes of the Ausônio Araújo Municipal School, based on the implementation of the extension project of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, entitled “Education Financial in Schools”. The universe comprises 5th-grade classes, and the sample consisted of 180 students, with 45 participating in the project implemented in 2018 and 45 in 2019, and a control group with 45 not participating in the project in 2018 and 45 in 2019. For data analysis, a structured Likert scale questionnaire and Wilcoxon non-parametric mean difference test were used. The results suggest that the groups that participated in financial education classes in 2018 and 2019 had more knowledge regarding the answers to the propositions than the control group. The project is relevant and contributes to decision-making regarding the students' financial lives. However, concerning the domain of financial skills, the students had difficulties and limitations in decision making, highlighting the importance of further dialogue on the subject at home and in interpersonal relationships. In addition, there was a higher commitment and initiative from the Ministry of Education regarding the effective implementation of financial education in schools nationwide.
