description | During twenty-five years, Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson boasted of a 1983 decision by the Court of Appeal of Paris that, he alleged, paid tribute to his work and described it as scientific. This erroneous interpretation of the decision led him to invoke it while suing the numerous individuals who described him as a falsifier of history. This gave courts the opportunity to correct the clumsy grounds put forward in the 1983 decision and to expose the falsity of Faurisson’s reading of it. This process reached its climax in the libel judgment in favour of former lawyer and Minister of Justice Robert Badinter. This article recounts this story. |
