| description | This article draws on a thesis completed in 2020 devoted to three accounts of voyages made by German architects who visited Paris and Versailles in around 1700, which were studied using a new quantitative and qualitative method. These accounts were analysed by starting out from three issues: the content of the texts and their distribution (length by treated subject, text-image relationship), the authors’ approach and the origin of the information. To achieve this, it was necessary to carry out identifications, categorisations and detailed quantifications in order to generate precise numerical data, making it possible to confirm suppositions by means of a form of dissection of sources. Thanks to this method, the travel accounts could be analysed in a systematic way and in their entirety. The article presents exemplary results obtained by means of this method. |
