Summary:Characteristics of amiodarone in clinical practice are focused on. Amiodarone pharmacological mode of action and its pro-arrhythmic effect is presented. As well as various side effects that can happen in clinical practice. Special attention is paid to the problem of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis, its classification, diagnosis and treatment. Prospects of new anti-arrhythmic drugs class III, in particular dronedaron are also discussed.
