description The present article follows the evolution of the approaches to the problem of authenticity, focusing on the various forms of literary authenticity reflected in modernist literary theory texts and manifestos. We will emphasize the differences and similarities between the conceptions, phenomena, and literary currents that refer to authenticity, trying to understand their causes and evolution. The subjects we will particularly draw attention to refer to the definition of authenticity throughout literary history, literary authenticity expressed within the literary currents of modernism, and the influence of philosophical conceptions concerning authenticity on modernist literature.
