Summary: | The rapid social and economic changes happening today in society caused emergence of the new
social demand for training specialists of economic profile, capable and ready to perform functions of the
language intermediary in situations of professional activity. Translation is one of important means of crosscultural business communication in the field of economy today, it provides specialists with an opportunity
of collaborating effectively with foreign partners.
The article considers the main problems of teaching the skills of translation to higher education
students of economic profile. The analysis shows that the status of this problem is characterized by
eclecticism, lack of standard methodological base, and uniform conceptual approaches.
On the basis of the analysis of scientific literature, the authors define the concept of “translation
competence” and its structure. The main criteria by which students should be guided when translating
texts of an economic profile are defined. The basic problems arising in the process of translating foreign
language texts are described. The principal methods promoting forming the skills of translation of
professional orientation texts are discussed and requirements to selection of texts to be translated are
formulated.
The translation competence is considered as an integral part of professional competence of students
of economic profile. |
