Description
Summary:According to the Democracy Index (The Economist, 2006-2016), Brazil is considered a hybrid democracy due to the relationship established between citizens and its institutional political system. Electoral competition, articulation, aggregation of citizens' interests, and the legitimation of power within society are carried out through political parties. In light of this, the objective is to analyze how the votes of voters in the cities of Petrolina/PE and Juazeiro/BA have evolved between 1988 and 2016. This analysis includes evaluating the following variables for each election: parties with registered candidates for mayor, party electoral results for mayor, governor, and president. Additionally, the aggregation of economic and demographic data, such as GDP, HDI, population, and education, is planned. Thus, through the combination of these elements, it will be possible to assess how these voters voted for mayor, governor, and president. Some preliminary findings of these assessments are anticipated in the current stage of the research.
