Summary: | While Habermas opposes systematic regulation and communication leaning towards consensus, the present article aims to trace out another line : to consider communication as a medium of division proper to civil society. This discussion occurs through an examination of the problems posed by a Hegelian conception of public opinion. We can thus bring forth the potentially irreducible character of the tendencies toward unity and toward social polarization. |
