| description | At the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, in search of means of improving the cavalry, equestrian sports and equestrian games became the basis for its preparation. After the successful reform of the cold weapons in 1881, the Shashka's (Cossack sabre) cutting became one of the most popular types of competitions in the troops and integral part of the Russian military art. The research based on the study of an array of military administrative and military statutory documentation, memoir and military historical literature. Photographic documents from the State Archives of the Russian Federation (SARF) and the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents of St. Petersburg were also use in the research. The research methodology is a combination of methods: ideographic method, according to which cognition begins with a description, and genetic method, which based on the consistent disclosure of changes in the studied reality. The structure of the paper formed by the problem and chronological principle of presentation. In the scientific turnover are introduced archival materials that allow present in detail the specifics of equestrian competitions of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries and the role of the Shashka's cutting in them. The received result allows us to draw conclusions that the hot and sincere passion for Shashka's cutting, which appeared in the Russian army in the last third of the XIX century, by the turn of the XIX-XX centuries, organically entered into the daily life of the Russian cavalry on the rights of another national feature. The program of equestrian competitions held in February-April 1900 in the Mikhailovsky arena by the Committee of the Society for the Promotion of Field Dignity of Hunting Dogs and All Types of Hunting (from the personal fund of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna in the SARF) published for the first time. |
