description This article discusses how the use of visual materials as a source offers new perspectives on writing the history of coeducation in vocational trainings. It is based on the deep analysis of illustrations of an orientation brochure presenting the national school of photography in the sixties. These pictures were meant to document everyday school life, but the study shows that the editing done by the school’s board of directors constructs the image of the professional photographer on gender-based criteria, which highlights their resistance towards coeducation in technical schools. These visual politics may prevent girls from identifying as future professionals in this field.
