Summary:INTRODUCTION[|]This study aims to examine the control and sanctioning mechanisms of the nursing journals in Turkey in terms of publication ethics and their reactions in case of publication ethics violations.[¤]METHODS[|]This is a descriptive study. Population of the study was consisted of nursing journals in Turkey. The answers were interpreted by frequency distribution, percentages and themes were derived from the analysis of responses. [¤]RESULTS[|]Of the journal editors who participated in the study, 77.77% stated that their journals request ethics committee approval; in 55.5%, the ethics committee approval requested to assess the studies in terms of publication ethics; 88.8% encountered ethical problems in referencing; and 44.4% had demanded corrections from authors for these problems. Of these editors 44.4% do not publish the article when he/she detected unethical behavior, 44.4% reject an article if it is just a translation of a published study, sent only by adding the names of translators as authors; 22.2% had difficulties about rightful authorship; 33.3% do not publish works if there is an author ship problem; 22.2% had received a notification that there was an ethical violation in a study published in their journal; 55.5% had terminated a reviewer's involvement if there was an ethical violation; 44.4% stated that their journals do not have a specific and written policy for conflict of interest. [¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]This study revealed that the journals examined do not have a common ethical standard of scientific publishing; editors had insufficient knowledge about publishing ethics; and education is needed to provide editors' knowledge and awareness about this issue.[¤]
