The β-D-mannosidic moiety has been synthesized using a D-mannose-derived thioglycoside by a two-step activation process. Late stage TEMPO-mediated oxidation of the pentasaccharide derivative using phase-transfer reaction conditions furnished the target compound in satisfactory yield. |
