Description
Summary:This article focuses on the transition to armed violence by Ukrainian volunteer fighters in the Donbass war. The mobilization of winter 2013-2014 and the repression of the authorities upset the individuals at the intimate level, even when they did not directly took part in the mobilization. In this violent context, the passage to armed violence becomes conceivable. The article analyses the engagement trajectories but also the perception that individuals have of their engagement after a few years. The passage to armed violence has a strong individual and emotional dimension, however individuals tend to put forward the collective and sacrificial dimension in an ex post justification of their engagement.
