Description
Summary:The essay analyzes the activity of some Lucchese humanists or arrived in Lucca from the mid-fifteenth century to the mid-sixteenth century. It focuses on the orations of Gian Pietro d’Avenza, Giovanni Bartolomeo Carminati, Niccolò Tegrimi or anonymous preserved in some manuscripts. It highlights the central role played by Tegrimi and the masters called to teach Greek and Latin letters in Lucca (Gian Pietro of Avenza, Giovanni Bartolomeo Carminati, Aonio Paleario). It illustrates the network of cultural relations that linked Lucca to other Italian cities and to the English kingdom, from the forties of the fifteenth century.
