description | This article focuses on project designers’ perceptions of the social benefits of BIM for communicating with users. The aim is to contextualize the concept of social sustainability in BIM practices and to observe designers’ feedback on these practices. To do this, we use a synthesis of the work of Rúben Santos and Tamer El-Diraby. This synthesis highlights three categories of BIM use that can provide added value for users, in a context of social sustainability: comfort, cultural heritage and communication between experts and users. Through semi-directive interviews, we questioned designers about communication with users. Two findings emerged. Firstly, including users in the BIM process is seen as a strength, making it possible to improve communication and highlight innovative solutions from users. Secondly, designers perceive several risks in implementing such an approach: the investment in time and the resulting workload, access to a BIM model, the need for a predefined framework and the management of data generated during the project. As a result, designers prefer the use of BIM to generate information for users, rather than to receive information from users. |
