description | The results of the 23th of October 2011 National Constituent Assembly (NCA) election in Tunisia, which made of the Islamist party Ennahdha by far the first political of the country (around 40% of the votes and seats), are variously interpreted by analysts. These interpretations give limited attention to the territorial dimension of the vote. Based on the assumption that the Tunisian vote of October 23, 2011 can only be understood by combining a sociological and territorial approach, we analyze the main socio-economic foundations of this vote. After a brief presentation of the Tunisian party system, we propose a descriptive analysis of the geography of elections. Finally, the election results are compared with the socio-economic data of the territories, at the scale of the delegations. These analyzes highlight the strong territorial dimension of the Tunisian vote, however irreducible to the socioeconomic characteristics of the territories. They call for a more detailed exploration of the social processes that influence voting behavior, particularly at local level. |
