Summary: | <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>We report the expression pattern of <it>5S rDNA </it>in the eggs of water frogs <it>Rana lessonae</it>, <it>Rana ridibunda </it>and <it>Rana esculenta </it>using the quantitative real-time PCR. This kind of research had never been performed before.</p> <p>Results</p> <p><it>5S rDNA </it>relative expression of the <it>Rana ridibunda </it>oocytes is approximately six times higher in comparison to the <it>Rana lessonae </it>oocytes. The oocytes of the investigated <it>Rana esculenta </it>frogs, in respect of <it>5S rDNA </it>relative expression ratio, were very similar to the <it>Rana ridibunda </it>oocytes.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>We suggest the possibility of using <it>5S rDNA </it>as the internal control gene, in the studies of relative mRNA quantitative assays in water frog oocytes, because of its characteristic specific expression pattern in the <it>Rana lessonae</it>, <it>Rana ridibunda </it>and <it>Rana esculenta </it>oocytes.</p>
