Description
Summary:The paper aims to present the bone (82) and horn (4) artefacts, found during the excavations of the medieval settlement in Petrova Niva Locality, Sboryanovo Archaeological Reserve during the 2005 – 2019 campaigns. All artefacts were subjected to osteological and trasological analysis. Observations have been made regarding the location of the studied artefacts, the preferences for a certain raw material, the stages of processing, as well as the traces of use, allowing functional determination of the bone tools. The identification leads to the conclusion that a wide range of activities is evidenced by bone tools, most of which are related to home crafts (mainly leather processing and textile production). The conclusions resulting from the analysis are compared with data from a number of studied medieval sites in the region, as well as with specialised studies on medieval bone and horn artefacts.
