| Summary: | The article deals with comparatively new category of linguistics - textual modality. This category is the semantic base of the text; it realizes the fundamental principles of text and comprises various language and speech means of subjective modality. Textual modality expresses the relation of speech producer to the contents of speech and to the extralinguistic reality. The textual modality is the semantic source of various texts and the criterion of the differentiation of functional styles.
