Summary:The article is focused on discussion and presentation of Mill's ambivalent attitude towards conservatism. Author shows that Mill's classical liberalism is a synthesis of earlier, one-sided liberalism and conservatism, of which he borrowed ideas of evolution, history, order, stability and nationality. Beside exploration of many concrete details in which one can see Mill's concurrent criticism and admiration od conservatism, great part of the article is dedicated to issue of religion as an important illustration of main thesis.
