Most SMEs do not implement formal tools to protect, and share needed knowledge which makes knowledge transfer difficult and transferable. Another setback is how sure would the knowledge be shared, used, and managed with other members. The aim of this study is to assess the significance of knowledge transfer as a driver of innovative performance in Nigerian SMEs through methods like training, mentorship, research and development and social networking employed by SMEs. Quantitative research was adopted. With over eleven (11) thousand registered SMEs in Lagos State and using the Yamane’s formula, a total of 386 respondents formed the sample size for this study. However, this study was only able to capture two and sixty-seven respondents hundred because of the responsiveness from the business owners. The study established a positive significance of social networking, mentorship and research and development on innovation performance. The study concluded that training reveals no impact on innovative performance which further establish that most SMEs operators in Nigeria usually improves business skills through apprenticeship instead of an organized training to transfer knowledge. The absorptive capability theory was adopted to explains the importance of enriching organizational learning by the acquisition of diverse knowledge from different sources to enhance capabilities. It also depict the impact of technological innovation performance through general abilities of an individual. One major limitation to the study was the inability of the SMEs owners and managers were unwillingness to fill questionnaire.
