The object and the aim of this article is the diachronic and areal-typological study of the formation of the future category/dimension do + subjunctive in Albanian. This phenomenon seems to have reached the Albanian language area already before the first Old Albanian written testimonies, and continues to exist as such everywhere in this area today, but with a density that may have been spatially and temporally dependent both on the uneven development of the competition of the existing structural homonymy and on the interlingual environment of the Balkans (Balkansprachbund), which influenced linguistic convergence in a one-sided way and therefore could not evenly encompass the entire Albanian-speaking territory.
