Summary:The aim of this paper is to think the essence of art in the philosophy of Ortega from his book <em>La deshumanización del arte</em>. Art is for Ortega above all, as cultural form, an interpretation of life’s text. But <em>La deshumanización del arte</em> isn’t a manifesto of artistic avant-gardes at the beginning of the 20th century, but a meditation on the essence of art.
