description This study provides the first record of Mycetophylax simplex (Emery, 1888) for Uruguay and extends the known distribution of this species south  in South America. Mycetophylax simplex is currently the only species of the genus that occurs in Uruguay. Workers and queens were captured with pitfall traps in a sandy beach on east coast of Uruguay. Data and figures of M. simplex for the recognition of the species and map of distribution are presented.
