Summary:The article examines the prospects and electoral cycle marked by Venezuelan presidential elections in October 2012 and April 2013 and the state elections of December 2012, indicates how the political and social changes introduced by President Hugo Chavez created a new reality for Venezuela and the difficulties faced by the opposition to accept this legacy and at the same time propose changes. It points still the scenario of intensification of political polarization with the election of Maduroand the opposition strategy of use recall referendum. It is analyzed still the consequences on Venezuelan foreign policy and the role that Brazil can play in the new scenario.
