description | Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa is a debilitating, chronic, relapsing inflammatory condition associated with the development of painful nodules and abscesses progressing to persistently draining sinus tracts. This has a great impact on the psychological aspects of the patient and thus on quality of life. The aetiopathological concepts have vastly evolved with time, as have treatment options. Even with the advancement in management strategies, hidradenitis suppurativa remains a formidable problem for the clinician. A collaborative approach management involving the dermatologist and plastic surgeon is mandatory to achieve the most advantageous outcome. Here, a review of recent literature is presented, including a comparison between various management strategies. |
