Summary: | The paper examines a kiln investigated by G.I. Patsevich's excavations in 1950 at the Golden Horde’s city Saraichik in the North-Eastern Caspian Sea region. The purpose of the discovered furnace was initially unclear due to the fact that it was one of the first structures of this type found in the cities of the Ulus of Jochi. Similar furnaces were later identified in the cities of Central Asia, the Urals, the Volga region and Eastern Europe. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the functional purpose of the studied object and to determine the range of existing analogies. The results of a comparative analysis of similar furnaces discovered at the monuments of the Golden Horde during the second half of the 20th – the early 21st centuries allowed to identify and determine the functional purpose of the Saraichik furnace. As a result of the work, the functional purpose of the furnace was determined – a brick kiln. |
