description The paper addresses the problems of sustainable development of rural territories. On the basis of the analysis of the Kemerovo region rural territories development indicators, the reasons having negative impact on this process are established. The authors suggest implying local marketing as atoolfor increasing sustainable development of rural territories. It is concluded that in combination with other tools, municipal marketing will allow not only to overcome the negative phenomena in rural economy, but will considerably raise the involvement of population into the process of local government.
