Description
Summary:This article examines the participation of Conibo natives in the process of geographic and cartographic knowledge of the Upper Ucayali in 1686. The evidence comes from a series of reports and maps produced in a lawsuit between the Franciscans of Lima and the Jesuits of Quito contesting the possession of a mission among the Conibo. This research underlines the important role that Conibo individuals played in the Franciscan exploration of the Upper Ucayali and the consensual nature of the cartography in colonial Amazonia.
