Description
Summary:Magnesium alloys possess a high strength-to-density ratio, thereby increasingly being utilized as lightweight structural materials in a range of industrial applications. Nevertheless, to compete with established materials like aluminum alloys, it is essential to understand the corrosion behavior of Mg and its alloys, as their high reactivity hampers industrial application. The addition of Ca to wrought Mg-Al alloys has gained attention for its ability to improve mechanical properties while also enhancing processing behavior. However, the wide range of alloy compositions within the class of Mg-Al-Ca alloys results in a variety of different corrosion properties. Consequently, this study contributes by investigating the corrosion behavior of two Mg-Al-Ca alloys, highlighting the influence of chemical composition and microstructure.
