description High-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection (HPLC-PDA) was developed for chromatographic fingerprint analysis of the ethanolic extract from Dioscorea membranacea Pierre (known as Hua-Khow-Yen in Thai medicinal plant). Chromatographic fingerprint, together with the contents of the dioscorealide A, dioscorealide B and dioscoreanone, which are three markers of the main constituents were first established and applied for quality control. The samples were separated with reversed phase HPLC by linear gradient elution using water and acetonitrile as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min and detector wavelength at 245 nm for dioscoreanone and at 270 nm for dioscorealide A and dioscorealide B. This HPLC fingerprint analysis has proven its usefulness for identification and assessment for quality evaluation of D. membranacea extract.
